0 Mosquito Abatement Spraying @ Mukdahan

Well, rainy season came early this year and with it came the mosquitoes and an outbreak of Dengue Fever. This caused the Dept. of Public Health to order spraying for mosquitoes. I don't know how effective it will be but I guess  it is better than nothing. - Khun Rut

0 Lunch @ Lit Bahmi - Mukdahan

We have eaten at this place many times and I have never taken video there. They have been serving lunch for many years. We originally were going to a place up the street but it was closed that day. We ended up at Lit Bahmi and had a good lunch and a good time. - Khun Rut

0 Group Picture Taking Is Getting Out of Hand

My wife and I were invited to a dinner for a small seminar for a group she is an affiliate of. This was at a place called Tajinda Resort just outside of Mukdahan. They had the obligatory group pictures and the scene of the people taking the pictures was a joke. Cameras, tablets, phones video cameras and no one will hardly look at a one of them. They will take up space on multiple harddrives some where though, I am sure. - Khun  Rut

0 Makro Grand Opening @ Mukdahan March 15, 2013

In one year Mukdahan went from having a small sized Tesco / Lotus store to having Big C, Global House, Thai Wasadu, and now Makro. Scheduled for 2014 is a Robinsons / Central Mall. Its nice to have choices but we still go to the open air markets for a lot of things. - Khun Rut

0 Thai Wasadu Grand Opening @ Mukdahan March 14th 2013

In the past year or so we in Mukdahan have had 4 major stores open up. Big C, Global House, Thai Wasadu and Makro. Thai Wasadu is a building supply / home improvement center as you will see and it will give the people of Mukdahan more choices when it comes to building and home decoration. It was a fun time. There was even a Cool Hand Luke moment!!! - Khun Rut

0 Farewell Dinner for Martin @ Narin Fishing Park - Mukdahan

One of the fixtures of Thailand and Isaan is the dinner party. This was a small farewell party for a teaching assistant, Martin, who was part of the AFS program at Mukdahan School. It was nearing the end of his time here so my wife hosted a small good bye dinner for him and the host mother that he was staying with at the popular restaurant, Narin Fishing Park. I don't think you can still fish there but you can have some good food and relaxing times. The place is open for lunch and dinner daily. - Khun Rut

0 Multi-tasking - Watering Plants and Listening to Music @ Khon Kaen

Not so long ago we took our dog to the Animal Hospital on the campus of Khon Kaen University about 2.5 hour drive away from Mukdahan. The university there is HUGE and it even includes it's own gas station on it. Well my wife went into the 7-11 at the gas station I watched this feat of mental and physical dexterity outside. - Khun Rut

0 Tamboon @ Nong Sung for Loong Po Jam

Loong Po Jam was a famous Buddhist Monk in Thailand. He died recently at an age over 100 years old. Over the past weeks there has been a long tamboon to celebrate his life before his funeral and eventual cremation. People have been coming by to the wat in Nong Sung where he spent much of his later life to pay their respects. Many people also bring along some food that they can give out to the other visitors as a gift. - Khun Rut

0 Afternoon Coffee @ Curve X Mukdahan

I have been to this place several times for coffee. Its right by the Ploy Palace Hotel, near the Tesaban. They have good coffee and cheap with a hot cappuccino only 35 baht. The service is nice and they have a full menu including steaks and some Western food as well as a full on Thai menu. The food is pretty good and fairly reasonably priced. Good ambiance too with free wi-fi. See you there some time. - Khun Rut

0 Renewing My Driver's License @ Mukdahan DMV

In December my Thai Driver's License expired and I had to go get a renewal. Oddly enough they won't let you renew before it expires you have to wait until it is dead then you can submit your application. As you can tell it was about as easy and painless as can be. I needed a few documents. (Copy of passport, letter from immigration as to where I live and the type of visa I am on, copy of house book) Fee was like 5 dollars US for each license (Motorcycle and car).
Recently I had a discussion with an expat visiting here with his Thai wife and he was denigrating Thailand for its corruption (Like the US has none.) Anyhow his main point was that "Everybody in the US has to go to the DMV to renew his license". Well that is not really true but anyone that has been to a California DMV should contrast the experience with the one I just had really. - Khun Rut
