0 Thai Language Day Celebration At Mukdahan School

Earlier this week I was invited to attend Thai Language Day at Mukdahan School as a guest of the Thai Department. There were lots of skits with singing and dancing, lots of kids in colorful costumes and even some booths set up outside by the students. At noon we had lunch together. It was a wonderful time

2 A Visit to Pu Manorom

A couple days ago I went up to the Temple at Pu Manorom to check things out. There were a few changes, new sala nois in the parking lot, a fake waterfall and work proceeding rapidly on the "Big Buddha" on top of the mountain. The workers are just making the base but it is going to be humongous!. I will be going back periodically for further updates on the progress. - Khun Rut

0 90 Day Report At Mukadahan Immigration

Just a quickie video of my recent 90 day report at Mukdahan Immigration. I didn't record inside because it was the first time I had seen this officer and he was alone. there wasn't anyone else in the office at the time that I knew. So I decided not to mess with things.

2 Visakha Bucha Celebration 2012

Each year near this time Buddhism celebrates the birth, death and enlightenment of the Buddha on Visakha Bucha day. This year my wife and I attended the ceremony at Wat Luang Poo Jaam just past Kamcha-I. (Edit: The real name of the wat is Wat Pa Wiwek Wattanaram.) This wat is famous for once being the residence for the famous monk Luang Poo Jaam who is over one hundred years old and is said to have attained enlightenment. The ceremony consists of chanting and circling the stupa three times carrying lighted candles and lotus flowers. (Some wats you carry joss sticks too.) This is called Vieng tien in Thai. When the three rounds are complete everyone puts their lotus' down on the altars along side the stupa and put the candles in the metal bowls making a big fire in each bowl. It is quite a beautiful sight. - Khun Rut

0 Mukdahan Trade Fair June 4

I was out and about on my motorbike and stopped to check the construction on the new provincial headquarters and noticed a Trade Fair going on nearby. It was the last day of the fair and a good amount of the vendors had already pulled up stakes. I decided to go in for some video and all that was worthwhile was the Food Aisle. So I ditched the rest and here is what you got. (I needed the coffee anyways.) -Khun Rut

3 A Great Larb Ped Restaurant - Mukdahan

About a year ago my next door neighbor, Ted, called me up and invited me to have lunch with him and his then girlfriend. This is the place we went. I took my wife there and we kept coming back. Its a little one man shop and it specializes in Isaan duck dishes. Our favorite is the Larb Ped. It tastes great and he gives a good sized portion at an inexpensive price. What more can you ask for????? It is located about one hundred meters south of the Indochina market on the river road. Hope you can find it and enjoy it as much as we do.- Khun Rut
