2 A Visit to Pu Manorom

A couple days ago I went up to the Temple at Pu Manorom to check things out. There were a few changes, new sala nois in the parking lot, a fake waterfall and work proceeding rapidly on the "Big Buddha" on top of the mountain. The workers are just making the base but it is going to be humongous!. I will be going back periodically for further updates on the progress. - Khun Rut

Thanks for the kind words Kay. As for your dad, I know that there were many Viet Nam era military bases in the area. There was a big one in Nakom Phanom just north of here about 100 km. and Udon Thani has a big airbase still there. To the south about 160 km. there was a very big airbase in Ubon Ratchatani. There was also a secret US army base just outside of Mukdahan according to Mr. Eeg a Thai friend of mine. Many of the personell that were stationed at those bases ended up coming back here to live either after the war or when they retired. It is also rumored that Ho Chi Minh had a secret residence in the Vietnamese section of town near Tiger Alley. I can't vouch for the truth of it though.
